CONTEXTURE
Contexture is a juried literary and arts magazine published by students at James Madison University (JMU). Contexture contains short stories, poems, and artwork. I redesigned the JMU creative magazine and presented the information in a logical, unified, and visually appealing manner. The magazine visualizes the essence of the specific subject matter, such as the cover, table of contents, contact info, and more. I took into consideration the nature of the content and its visual hierarchy, asymmetry, contrasts, rhythm, value, scale, position, and positive and negative space. An experimental approach was taken for the typographic design and layout of this magazine: connecting letterforms, overlapping letters, tracking out headings, bleeding edges, and other features were used to derive a creative and expressive direction, while still working cohesively with the featured content.
